The rough conditions of the drainage system could possibly caused the sinking of a section in the Veracruz Port’s pier, place that was recently restored with federal and local resources.
Due to this, staff from the civilian protection management in the city of Veracruz, surrounded the area to prevent the citizens and tourists of stepping in the damaged area.
In total, the three government instances invested 50 million pesos on November 2013, which was supposedly allocated to the remodeling of 13 public plazas at the historic downtown and for the already concluded restoration of the pier, which has already suffered the first temporally damages.
During an interview, the director of the civilian protection in Veracruz, Jonatan Perez Hernandez, said that they have not determined the causes of the problem, but have already reported it to the public works for its reparation.
Perez Hernandez also said that this Wednesday afternoon, the shopkeepers notified them about the sinking, closing this passage of the pier to prevent pedestrians’ accidents.
He estimated that the causes could have been the rough conditions of the pipes’ system that crosses the undersoil, like the gas and drain ones, which are a responsibility of the Water and sanitation system.
At the moment, the only protection for the people that walk around the area, is the tied rope around it, and some colorful cardboards that warn of the dangerous and sunk area.
