On November 14, with the musical and dancing performance “Fly Veracruz, one united heart”, in the stadium Luis “Pirata” Fuente at the city of Boca del Rio, the opening ceremony of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean games was held. A top-level event, full of great artistic, musical, cultural expression, and colorful quality. Undoubtedly, a beautiful moment full of emotions, songs, music and dances that have expressed the variety, richness and wisdom of the Veracruz culture.

All these demonstrations made more than 20 thousand people trembled, as well as the athletes from 31 countries and surely, the viewers that watched the event. All our recognition to the organizers, authorities, performers, dancers, army, volunteers and especially to the citizens of Veracruz.

This edition of the Central American and Caribbean games was presented as a message of peace, unit, and fraternity for Mexico and the world. It is an occasion for cultures and athletes to encounter each other; “We welcome the world with a peace message,” said grandfather Guadalupe Simbron; in the other hand, Javier Duarte mentioned in his message that these are the games of “unity, friendship and hope.”

This opening ceremony revives our souls, it reminds us the glory of our state and it excites us to keep doing commitments of peace and not violence. The start of these games defeated the bad auguries, fatalism and the doubts of whether Veracruz was capable of hosting this sport event. It was achieved and that taught us a lesson. The celebration of these Central American and Caribbean games should not let us forgive about the commitments towards truth and justice. If we all give our best determination, we could also beat the evil shadows that surround the population and are spreading pain, mourning and fear. We could also overtake the corruption that has discredited our institutions.

We have a state and country that has been hurt, there is still a lack of development opportunities, a lot of pending matters in order to achieve a quality education, there are not enough health spaces, we have a lot of poverty and misery, injustice has committed a lot of abuses and violence has not been controlled; these event should not make us forget our reality. We are doing vows so this sport event can encourage friendship and fraternity, letting peace shine, so they could be celebrated civilized way without drowning the voices of social protest. Authorities should not be distracted, letting the way open for those who are pretending to live with impunity. To live in peace, there is a need of commitments decided by the truth and justice.
