Social networks are a double-edged tool as “they could put you on the top one day and send you to the bottom to the other, you have to be honest, say the truth so the crisis moments are diminished,” said Mitzi Arias, Social Media Manager.
She said that it is really important for Mexican politicians to take part of Marketing and Politics 2.0, it is almost an obligation, because social networks are here to stay and if she or he really wants to reach the citizens they should have knowledge regarding social media as well as having an expert by their side.
“In my opinion, the Mexican President has good management; it is fresh, productive, it doesn’t just talks about the politician, it gives a lot of information; and Xalapa’s major Americo Zuñiga has a good management as well, he is looking out for them, uses them, communicates and even does twitter reunions.”
She recalled that there are simple and basic rules regarding security, like not sharing your location and personal data. In the case of a politician it is important to know their agenda, but they have to act with cautious and discretion.
Even though the social networks are penetrating a lot of audience and especially the young one, they should never leave on the side other mass media like radio, television and written media.
Between all them, they could make a good underpinning so the politician can be cover from all media channels possible.
