The Rector of the National University of Mexico (UNAM), Jose Narro Robles, said that the huge problem of educational backwardness is reflected in our country, since 7.5 million young people don’t have possibilities, neither opportunities of studying and working.

Nevertheless, he showed optimism that in some extents the structural reforms, such as the treasury, fiscal, and telecommunications, are destined to fight against war, poverty and inequality, but specially towards high education, science, technology and arts.

Narro Robles said that we have advanced significantly in the last decade, but the public universities of our country stand under the average of Latin American schools. “We think that Mexico needs to make an special effort, the reforms have to brace with benefits to the improvement of education.”

Even though the minimum wage is pure “fiction”, an increase to it as the Mexico City Mayor suggests, will not be a solution to improve the mexicans’ life conditions.

“Instead of an entry, elevating the minimum wage will work as support, but it is clear that this salary is simply fiction, because it doesn’t attend to the constitution.”
